New House Remodeling

Our 100 year old house is getting a little facelift.  We are moving the existing kitchen into another room and tearing down a wall to make it more open, and redoing the original hardwoods.  Kevin and our friends here in RI have been working so hard at making this happen, we have a contractor doing the major work.  We move in now not until Jan. sometime.

But just a side note, a lot of people here in RI have lost their job or are about to and it has made me really appreciate our home.  I PRAISE GOD for his many blessings and reminded that he provides these things for us.  I pray that we use these things for his glory and not our own.  Please pray for these people who have lost their job.

"The Valley of Vision"

This book was introduced to me while at our church in D.C.  It really has aided me in my prayer life.  It's a collection of Puritan prayers and devotions.  Here is one of the prayers:

Need of Grace

O Lord,
Thou knowest my great unfitness for service,
my present deadness,
my inability to do anything for thy glory,
my distressing coldness of heart.
I am weak, ignorant, unprofitable,
and loathe and abhor myself.
I am at a loss to know what thou wouldest have me do,
for I feel amazingly deserted by thee,
and sense they presence so little;
Thou makes me possess the sins of my youth,
and the dreadful sin of my nature,
so that I feel all sin,
I cannot think or act but every motion is sin.
Return again with showers of converting grace
to a poor gospel-abusing sinner.
Help my soul to breathe after holiness,
after a constant devotedness to thee,
after growth in grace more abundantly every day.
O Lord, I am lost in the pursuit of this blessedness,
And am ready to sink because I fall short of my desire;
Help me to hold out a little longer,
until the happy hour of deliverance comes,
for I cannot lift my soul to thee
if thou of they goodness bring me not night.
Help me to hold out a little longer,
until the happy hour of deliverance comes,
for I cannot lift my soul to thee
if thou of they goodness bring me not nigh.
Help me to be diffident, watchful, tender,
lest I offend my blessed friend
in though and behaviour;
I confide in thee and lean upon thee,
and need thee at all times to assist and lead me.
O that all my distresses and apprehensions
might prove but Christ's school
to make me fit for greater service
by teaching me the great lesson of humility.

Crockpot Buffalo Chicken Lasagna Recipe

This might sound weird, but it was really good.  It has a kick to it of course with buffalo sauce and actually Kevin thought it would be better with a little less buffalo sauce.  Click here to see the recipe.  You might like this blog too, it's all crockpot recipes.

Resources

Here are two books that have helped me to think of things to do with Silas.

1. The Toddler's Busy Book by Trish Kuffner
I love this one because you don't buy a lot of things to make the crafts or games or you already have it on hand.

2.  365 Games Smart Babies Play by Sheila Ellison and Susan Ferdinandi
This one is good because he has games and ideas from birth to 15 months.

Also
3.  Super Baby Food by Ruth Yuron
This one is really helpful for making your own baby food, how much food for what age, and recipes

Pumpkin Pancake Recipe, Yum!

Silas loves these right now.

- 1   1/c cup all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
-2 tbs. brown sugar
- 2 tsp. baking powder
-1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1   1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup pumpkin
- 1 egg white lightly beaten
- 2 tbs. oil

Mix dry ingredients first and than add wet.  Sometimes I use Whole Foods whole wheat pancake mix and omit the first 4 ingredients and salt, you might want to still add a little brown sugar.

 Enjoy!

More Pictures from Apple Picking

A day in the life of Silas McKay

Here are a few things Silas likes to do in his day - eat, crawl around, and play with flour.

Waterfire

Providence does this cool thing called Waterfire.  The river runs through the middle of the city and certain months of the year baskets in the water are lit down the river.  It really is a neat thing to go to, music is always playing, gondolas are floating down the river, chandeliers are outside (yes, outside so pretty!) it's like you're in Italy or Europe, and all together it's such a neat atmosphere.  Here are a few pics of it.

Our Apple Picking Trip

So here goes me trying to do a blog. Our first adventure to tell about is apple picking. Silas and I went the other day. The day was gorgeous and the trees were too. Everyone has been telling us the falls in New England are awesome, and so far we haven't been disappointed. It was so cute watching Silas play with the apples and the pumpkins we found. He even stood on his own for a second, but I don't think he realized what he was doing. It won't be long until he's walking. He's actually really fast crawling, I mean if you turn your head and he'll be gone in a second. Anyway, we ate a lot of apples along the way and Silas found a basket to play in too. Here are some of the pictures we took, hopefully I can get the other ones.
